A muggy yet sunny day set the scene for the competition in which several teams from throughout the country competed.
Cuesta women's cross country shone bright bringing home second place overall with their own Kelly Barman landing in first with an impressive 18:04.22 5k.
Men took 5th place led by Taylor Castanon, Paul Denlinger, and Jehan Mirzaei.
Under head coach Brian Locher, both men's and women's teams have competed in three of the seven seasonal races. The women have started out strong.
"The first four runners are good enough to punch the Cougars return ticket to state, if they remain healthy, but there is plenty of depth to follow," wrote Peter Schuler in a season preview.
The men's team started strong with two top 5 finishes and more in sight. Finals start in late October and Locher has high hopes for the cross-country teams running their way toward success.
