The Cuesta College women's soccer team squared off against the ladies of Santa Barbara City College on Friday, Oct. 16 and emerged with a hard-fought 1-1 tie after Kaytlyn Johnson tapped in a goal late in the game.
Despite the hot conditions, the Cougars caught their second wind late in the game, forcing several corner kicks.
Cuesta was able to score after the Santa Barbara goalie failed to secure the ball and left the net exposed.
The Cougars held an 8-5 advantage in shots and held the ball for much of the game, but could not get on the scoreboard until later.
"I think this was great game for our girls. We fought hard and got a break at the end, which was nice because those bounces haven't been going our way this year. I am really proud of the team," said coach Bob Wilson.
The team hosts Ventura College at 4 p.m. on Friday Oct. 23.
