Despite economic woes, representatives for schools from around the state are finding their way to Cuesta College, providing students with an opportunity to learn more about further education.

Every year, Cuesta provides for students an opportunity to meet with representatives for schools from around the state to discuss anything from the meaning of life on campus to the question of finals. This year, the event will be held between the hours of 10:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. in the Student Center (the 5400 building) on Nov. 2. This event is free, and open to anyone interested to learn more about transferring.

Universities, including UC Berkeley, UC Santa Barbara, and a group of California State Universities including Cal Poly and Monterey Bay, will attend the event-but that's just the tip of the iceberg. Even more are expected to appear to provide their information to interested students. Several student workshops focused on turning prospective students into competitive candidates are available for help with financial aid, athletic eligibility, even help writing an effective college application paper.

If that wasn't enough to stimulate the thirst for success, there's more-the event will be entertained with live jazz music, and for the most motivated students, free pasta, salads, and drinks will be provided for the first 400 students who come-FREE!

"Finances in the education system are shrinking," explains Lupe Beanway. Beanway, who works as the Transfer Career Assistant explains students are going to need to make a more concentrated effort to keep on track. In a system where the application process relies more on searching for ways to reject a student, where the strength of one's portfolio is related to the number and kind of mistakes that are made, the room for error dramatically falls-and according to Beanway, "Students are going to need to be innovative."

"Come out, and have good time!" Beanway says.
